OFFBEAT (coL and Aaron Embry) became a reality out of the blue, coming
together in impromtu night recording sessions in Los Angeles in 1998. There
was only the spirit of a theme and improvisation to guide the werk.

"This is a perfect example of coL's unique ability to transmute his collaborator's inhibitions
and shortcomings. I usually require a tedious preparation before going into the studio, and
anything i've heard of my participation in free improvisations shows my complete absence
of attention to the delicate nature of Spontaneous Music. coL is an incredible facilitator of the
Now-Factor in Art and Music in his collaborations, as well as his solo work. With OFFBEAT,
I was under his spell, and it's a wonderful feeling to listen to music you were a part of making
